Mary L. Dinon has written and self published The Winter Watchman’s Daughter: Memoirs of Life on the Nushagak Book, which can be purchased online at Barnes and Noble.
This book shares the story of her grandmother, Ella Nielsen, who grew up along the Nushagak river as the daughter of a cannery winter watchman and also as a wife of the cannery watchman at three Nushagak historic salmon canneries. She has historical photographs of Dillingham and the surrounding area that were taken by her father, Lars Degn Nelson. This is a story about salmon canneries, commercial fishing, and our ancestors who survived to bear us.
